Surplus With A Purpose

UW-Madison's Surplus With A Purpose is a multi-faceted operation designated by Wisconsin's Department of Administration as a delegated Authority for disposing of the State's surplus property. In an effort to restrict the amount of waste we send to landfills, the items we receive are typically reused, recycled, or sold. The items that we do not reuse or recycle are available for purchase. We offer two modes of purchase: in-house at our SWAP Shop in Verona, WI and on our Online Auction site.

UW Departments, State Agencies, and Public Schools ONLY

The University of Wisconsin-Madison has shop equipment available for interdepartmental redistribution.  The list of items is extensive and includes equipment such as lathes, table saws, miter saws, various kilns, and drill presses. Shop furniture such as work tables, stools, and lockers will also be available at the SWAP Shop Verona location. Discount for Schools

Public school districts and public teachers can shop for their school Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and get 25% off all in-store purchases. Items typically purchased by schools include school and office supplies, desks, tables, chairs, computers, digital projectors, and more. Help us get your school involved by spreading the word.
