CLEAN AIR AND BIOLOGICAL SAFETY CABINETS

(contract last updated 08/27/2021)

SCOPE: Contract for the purchase of  Clean Air and Biological Safety Cabinets.

The purpose of these specs is not only to provide a quality product to researchers on this campus, but also to provide a product that is safe for the UW-Madison in-house certification team.  Many of the requirements in this specification are included to ensure the personal safety of those who are called upon to certify and repair the units in a variety of laboratory settings.

The current biological safety cabinet standard (NSF 49, 2012) recommends that biological safety cabinets (BSCs) be considered for replacement after 15 years. We are concentrating our efforts on BSCs more than 20 years old and models having repeated costly maintenance issues. A program to assist in compliance with the BSC standard through the use of rebates and/or freight allowances to encourage laboratories to replace aging BSC units is noted below.

NOTE: Older replacement units may be eligible for rebate. Please contact Janet Bresnahan at janet.bresnahan@wisc.edu or vendor representative for details.
